The pictures of Lincoln and Reagan have competition this year, Teddy Roosevelt. Yeah, that Teddy Roosevelt. The one that the Republican establishment hated so much, they stuck him in the one place he couldn't do any harm: the Vice Presidency of the United States.
The one who ascended to the Presidency, enthralled the country, and basically undid most of what the radically pro-business Republicans had done for the previous 40 years.
The one who served his time, endorsed his vice president, and then left on safari.
And the same one who came back and found the new administration so lacking, he created a third party and spoiled the 1912 election.
And we see an elderly man, also a veteran, ascend the stage. But this is a very different type of Republican.
